Weekly challenge #1: 'A Man of Honour'

Rules:

1 - You may use only the default mudbox human base mesh
2 - Models may be textured or raw sculpts but must be done in mudbox.
3 - Other apps such as max, maya, xsi, lightwave etc are allowed for creating objects as part of the scene (belts, clothes etc...)
4 - You may take as long as you wish on this one, but it must be done within 7 days from starting it.

OK heres your 1st weekly challenge, take the given theme and create something that you feel fits it. I've made this 1st one more of a creative challenge to get everyone eased into things.

SPECIAL NOTE:

As the mac version of mudbox is currenlty still under beta, until it is released I will allow the use of other sculpting programs. Once the mac version is out This will change back to mud only.

here is a small concept I made some time ago, might give some inspiration.
All should now what it pictures :P.
I'm going to color it later on :).

I assume we all do post under this same thread if we participate, right?

@ Hulahuga, Governor idea sounds good. You going to give him some clothes in the end?

Ok, here we go.

My vision of Man of Honour is going to be Indian, possibly just a warrior or maybe a chief even.. not sure yet.
Currently at 500k polys.

Now that's one ugly woman! Hehe, thanks for the tip. Mostly worked with the face so far, but will fix it.
And no need to be sorry, all critics are more than welcome. I would not post anything on these forums if I would not want any critics :)

Wagner - Yeah, though I wonder, anyone got any good idea of "raising" a part of the body, to make clothes...
I've just started out giving him the shape. Though so far I'm planning on focusing on the face. :P.

You can always paint select areas, export selected and import them back as an object. It requires some serious cleaning after import due the lowpoly edges (unless you export from the highest lvl), but that's one way if you don't want to use any other software.

Aight, thanks. I'll try it on Thursday. Can't post any updates 'til then

Oscar

Does it have to be full body character or just a head lets say?

Mask off the areas you dont want raised then turn on flood in the sculpting tool set the strength and flood the remaining area

@Hulahuga - those shoulder pads or whatever u call them are meant to be like that .. the whole character is inspired by an old character but since it's just inspired i will not say which one:) u can guess tho :)
@dessi - i think so. anyways i plan to do whole character even if i will not make it to the dead line...but i won't propably finish this ever so :D

Oscar
03-18-2009, 01:54 PM

Hulahuga
03-20-2009, 09:01 AM
Wagner deserves to win this. But it was a close call ;P.

To bad I never had time to finish mine :(.

Oscar
03-20-2009, 09:50 AM
Well...Wagners model is the best of all posted here, my vote for him too :)

Hulahuga
03-20-2009, 09:52 AM
Votings closed then, seems no other members want to vote?

EDIT: Wagner needs to vote too :P

Wagner
03-20-2009, 01:04 PM
Ok, my vote hmm... Dessi has a very nice sculpt, but I have to pick Oscar.
To me there's more effort in it and it does remind me of Amrish Puri aka. Mola Ram in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, so my vote goes to Oscar :)

Hulahuga
03-20-2009, 04:39 PM
Okay then. No one else seems to want to vote, EVEN THOUGH ALL MEMBERS MAY VOTE EVEN IF THEY AREN'T CONTESTANTS.

Soo, Wagner seems to be the winner. Followed by Oscar.

dessi
03-20-2009, 06:40 PM
great work guys and congrats wagner ya deserve it great work ill have ya next time..lol

Hulahuga
03-20-2009, 07:54 PM
Hope more people join in next time. :).

Wagner
03-20-2009, 10:00 PM
Thanks guys, appreciated! (assuming voting is really done and Wayne agrees, comes and officially ends this ;) )

I also do hope more people would participate these. Come on people, start sculpting your dwarfs for the 2nd one already :D
Weekly challenges are indeed for fun and very nice practice.

Wayne
03-20-2009, 11:45 PM
Yep, voting ended and Wagner is declared the winner. :) congrats :)

Particapation is pretty low, which is bizaar after 2 years of mud users requesting a dedicated board. I always said I'll give it till year end and see if there is sufficent interest to keep it running or not. It would be a shame if it failed simply due to user interaction.

Im more of an observer at this stage, other work stuffs take priority over mud time unfortunatly... but i do like to see these weekly tasks so please keep em going :)

Hulahuga
03-23-2009, 08:35 AM
All should at least try to join in :). It is just for fun, it doesn't have to be good. Just try. ;)
