Now I freely admit that caricatures are not my thing...I don't do them as a general rule as I consider doing caricatures an art unto itself. But a few nights back I decided to do one of the actor Danny John-Jules who plays the 'Cat' in the Cult TV series Red Dwarf.

Why? Well I've had cause to chat with Danny before and I had promissed at some point to do a model of him (long story). So as I had a few ref images handy, I decided to do one of him and not of oneof the parts he's known for potraying. I thought it'd make a change to do one of the man behind the characters instead of the parts he's helped create. (Which would have been the easy way out in my oppinion.)

It took only about an hour in mud and it certainly isn't one of my best models, but I showed danny for a laugh and forgot all about it. The next morning I get an email from him telling me to look at his various profiles online on facebook and MySapce...

lo and behold he's using my caricature of him as his profile pic. Now to a Red Dwarf fan like myself thats major league coolness.

I should add as the media totally blanked this news, that Danny was recently cleared of ALL charges and is now offically an innocent man, (Its the reaons for his tag line of 'This is what an innocent man looks like' on Facebook.) Nice one Danny. ;) Also for those who know of the show (thats been off screens for 10 years now) its making a comback in April with 3 new episodes, so no one can say this isn't topical lol. But if your english then chances are you already know this.

There are certain rules to gettig a caricature I found that amake life easier...treat teh head like a water filed baloon and make sure that if you add mass in one area that you remove it from another (Whatever happens the head must ahveteh same mass regardless of the shape it is pulled into.) Theres a shed load ore things but that gives you a roiugh guide. This was a bit of a chalenge as I didn't want it to end up loking like something from disneys 'song of the south', when dealing with different races I try my best not to fall into stereotypes etc. I've definately got a bug for doing caricatures now so there may be a few more of them. ;)
