Hi Guys,
I want to create some custom stamps and was looking at the stamps in the install folder. What i've noticed is that unlike ZB stamps they don't have any fall off around the edge. Is this not required for Mudbox stamps? does it make a difference?
thanks

They dont require a fall off as firslty that makes them not limited and can be used at times when a sharper edged effect is required, and secondly as the brush falloff combines with the stamp. You can slso use a 32 bit float image as your stamp as well so there is nothing stoppig you sculpting a simple shape you require on a plane and then using the extracted map as a brush stamp. (Although be careful not to make it too big.)
You ca also use a stamp that has transparency (that is the way the photshop brush trick outlined on the main part of this site works) as well so that you only affect the areas that you need to and not everything under the brush. (Usually in the likes of zbrush people use teh black parts of a stamp as the 'blank bits' although this still affects the geometry..mudbox with the ability to have partial and full tranparency on stamp is way ahead in this feild. ;))
That should be enough infomation with any luck. :)

thanks for the info guys. yeah, it makes sense not to have fall off since it can be controlled by the brush profile...clever :)
now onto another problem :) i found the page in the online help about creating stamps and have followed it to a T and for whatever reason i can see it in the stamp directory when i add stamp?! Its definitely saved in there and i've recreated teh stamp about 5 times now following the instructions in the online help and it still isn't visible in the add stamp selection dialogue. any suggestions would be great.
thanks

No problem man, always nice helping out.
I actually haven't found a way to make them come up in mudbox yet. Neither with the litshperes. But u can still use it. Just go up in the menu.

Finally figured out what was going wrong. The Docs says to save your stamps in the Stamp folder in the install directory but the Add Stamp tool looks in the stamp folder in the user data directory in My Documents. Doh!
