This is a dry run for something I'l be doing for about 15 mins of my 90 min siggraph masterclass. Everything is sculpted and textured in mud, ie no bump maps etc....just sculpting.. Just a basic proof of concept for some stuff.

Nah handle etc I'd handle seperately for this...it was just the Mud stuff tht was of interest for this dry run mate.

Masterclass?...well put it this way.......

New Orleans : Siggraph: Autodesk: Mudbox Masterclass: Me ;)

Sorry I can't outline any more details at all at this stage.... but I will once I'm allowed. (Hopefully I wont get shot for mentioning now...lol)

Nah outloook express keeps playing stupid games and deleting emails and contacts..... As I've got a lot of stuff on the roll model wise at the moment I daren't do a format just yet to sort it out.

It's that old tileable texture of yours, isn't it ;).

I like the wooden part especially! :)

Any materials there (like litsphere)? Or is it all painted on?

All texures with an overlaid amb occ texture on each. Yes it is the tielable texture...works well for smaller areas, for larger areas a less 'unique' stone work would be needed.

Hope you're not looking to put Ryan "CrazyBump" out of business with this workflow ;D Refreshing to see more environment based stuff in Mud.The 15 min game asset pillar creation was great.
hope to see more of it mate.

Yeah, It works very well here! :).
How do you make such overlays? Or did you just turn AO on?

CrazyBump likePixPlant are great apps...not sure I could justify paying that much dosh out for something I could do as easily in photoshop and mud in combo mind you though. But there is a simple way to get excellent texture sets by using photoshop and mud together. Mudbox is not an island and neither was it meant to be...its whole reason for being is to be used in conjunctoi with other pipeline apps.

But there are going to be a few very big workflow suprises at this masterclass thats for sure ;) (Its sort of about 10 steps on from the QuickStart stuff.... now I've got people learned the basics of mudbox pipeline workflows, its time to bring things to the next level.)

Import your diffuse and amb occ map into photoshop, stick the amb occ over the top of the diffuse and set its blend mode to multiply. (You can also use it for other texture types and do some very interesting things with amb occ maps outside of the normal stuff....)

Cool. I'll try it sometime. When do you usually want to do this? :).
