Weekly challenge #4: 'Mr Happy, Shiny, Smiley Person'
Rules:
1 - You may create your own base mesh for this one
2 - Models may be textured or raw sculpts but must be done in mudbox.
3 - Other apps such as max, maya, xsi, lightwave etc are allowed for creating objects as part of the scene (belts, clothes etc...)
4 - You may take as long as you wish on this one, but it must be done within 7 days from starting it.
5 - No using any old or exsiting models
SPECIAL NOTE:
As the mac version of mudbox is currenlty still under beta, until it is released I will allow the use of other sculpting programs. Once the mac version is out This will change back to mud only.
This comes from my wifes nickname for me when I wake up after a couple of hours sleep lol. So you can interpret it as either a happy bloke or as a miserable git.... Its up to you.

wow...i just don't get it... how can U pull sth like that from such a simple base...i always have to go for milions of polygons b4 i'm happy with the base. How many polies on the high-poly version?

It's all about the shape and the silhouette when you make base meshes. You just keep on refining it from the base. That's what it's all bout ;).
Looks great Wayne! Thin lips... XP
How long time did it take?

It took about 35 mins and the final polycount was about 5 mill (as it was so far away from the existing edge loops in the base mesh.) A form is a form whether its made from polys, clay or dirty socks tied together. Once you can imagine the form for a section disembodied, then thats half the battle. Although most artists will say I'm talking through my arse on that one. Yet again it does take them significantly longer lol.

I thought i'd take a break from the project i'm working on as it's a fairly serious character with more polymodeling than Mud-ing. Wayne's early morning entry got me roused so i thought i'd take the day to get a start.i wanted to see aswell if i could bring a really crappy basemesh into Mud and turn it into something half decent as i usually do more polymodeling than sculpting.
I call this guy Lobo. He's a depressed bloke working in a dead-end office job and realised if he got a lobotomy,he could still do his mindless work but not have to think about it.
I still have alot of work to do around the stapled up scar area and i definitely plan to texture him if i get the time before the week is up.i already have the upperbody clothing roughed in.

Damn Wayne! Fast as always.
A good base shape is always good for your sculpts, I agree with you.

Cheers Wayne,it's the first time i've actually sat down and just created a character without planning or preparation. As i usually polymodel planning ahead is key as you know. But,it's really refreshing to just sit down and go for it. ;)
Hope your happy bloke in the first post comes back here to keep Mr. Lobo company.
