Hey,
Here is the beginning of my Marvel Supervillain Venom, 90's style.
My wife got a venom toy in a happy meal, and it reminded me of a simpler time, when people like Rob Liefield gave us characters with more guns and ammo pouches than facial expressions. Looking forward to putting the face on him and rendering him, i have plans for a sss.
Base mesh in Maya, sculpting in mudbox. This is about 1.3 million polys.

Thanks for the comments guys, i hope to do some more over the long weekend!
@steelsky:
i am actually not to happy with the base mesh. i did it really quickly, 2 hours or so, so i have some star points that i should fix and for the pecs, i just extruded, which is a terrible idea. Last character i created, i spent 3 weeks making a base mesh, get the right flow and everything, but by the time i finished, i had burnt myself out on the project, so it is now sitting in the "to complete" pile (which seems to be growing at an expedential rate) also, the the reason why it is so hi-res is because i had a set of hands from another model that i used so instead of lowering the res of the hands, i just sub divded once(I'm getting lazy).
@Hulahuga:
thanks, I want to put some detail into the calves and what ever the shin muscles are called. In doing the sculpt, i realised that i know very little about the hamstrings, so i think all pics will be front on ;)
@xtrm3d
Ah, you may love the proportion, but i love your gnomonolgy stuff! i have never had some much fun learning, i am rapidly adopting a "Desse == Download" policy.The concept of having a skinny spidey in there is awesome, so thanks for doubling my workload. ;)
Did you ever finish your 'Agent X' character that you had on Cgtalk?
hopefully i will post back soon with updates of face and teeth, and maybe a shader concept.

nope never really finished teh agent x redux .. i guess that somehow , my capt mokba is teh rightfull continuation of it :-)
Great start on good old venom, upper heavy proportions suit this villain well, maybe work some more on the arms and hands like some sharp nails and stuff, also the hips and calves could be pushed more, otherwise great start man, hungerrrr..! ;)

I only got a few hours over the week to mess with this, but i think that before i go any further, i need to retopologize it. The shape is there, but topology is pretty bad.
Does he look too much like a frog?

Yepp, very frog like. Make him a jumping one and it's a killer ;P

Sorry i have been away for so long, but i had to upgrade my gfx card. Surprisingly enough a 7880GTO wasn't cutting it anymore. Got a GTX 275 and all is well in the world.
So here is my venom, since last time, he has been retoped and textured. I need to texture the mouth, teeth and tongue, fix up the spec map and put another venom symbol on the back.
Here (http://www.tom-riordan.com/clients/files/work/venom/venom.mov) is a 90 degree turn around. I'll post the 360 soon. Its done, but i am at work
Any crits/comments?

i think the foot fingertips deserve a bit more sculpting/detail, not as much as the hands, just a bit;
Also i find the forearm is way too inflated, i know thats probably the point of what youre doin, überexxagerated shapes and cartooney look and well i must admit im not that much of a comic fan, just disturbs me a bit overall!!

Thanks for your comments, Raffaele.
I agree with most your comments, (especially about the finger tips) and i don't want to hide behind the wall of "It's not shit, it's stylized", but i as the title says, it's an attempt to harken back to the 90's in comic drawing, the big tits - big-pecs era. When characters could have up to and including 18 abdominal muscles.
So in summation, I agree with you about the fingers, but the feet stay. If i was staying true to the 90's i would have put something infront of the feet, Liefeld style.
I update the mov in the link, so is now the full 360
