Hi,
I want to give thanks to Wayne for all this work! thanks :)
and I'm a bit curious why you decided to abandoned ZBrush to Mudbox. Why you like so much Mudbox?
Feeling, tools, UI, speed? Why this decision?

Ah the 6 million dollar question. ;)
Why did I change? A load of reasons really.
The big one is the brush feel, the feel of the brushes is bang on what I need them to be with minimal tweaking and the polycounts are higher. The really big thing was the texturing capabilities as the most important map of all is the spec map. A good spec map can make a model while a bad one can kill a good one. Th ability to paint and preview your maps all at once as you do so cant be underestimated. Especially as I like to think my texturing is pretty ok.:)
Another reason was (and I admit this suprised me) that Autodesk treated me like a human being that mattered and didn't just sideline me simply because I ddn't live in LA or the USA . I've been privlidged enough to be shown where mudbox is headed in the future and advise on a few things. If even 50% of those things can be pulled off its going to be revolutionary. So I know where mud is headed and I liked what I saw... A LOT.
Also whereas the zbrush community treated me at times like I had a bad dose of the clap, the mudbox community has never been anything other than decent to me. So theres a load of reasons, and I've outlined only a few here. I could write a damn book on all the shenanigans I've witnessed from software an dvd publishers ove the years ...lol

Hi Wayne,
thanks for your answer. Very clear and now I understand much more about your decision.
I use for my architectural work ZBrush (I'm not obviously a Guru like you, I'm a VRay user), but I don't like ZBrush too much.
Ui is not to very User friendly and the texturing stuff... I agree with you! But I love in ZBrush the decobrush in Projection mode. and Mudbox don't heve it.
I use a lot for my folds in the bed, pillow etc... It's very smooth and make a folds is very, very, very simply. Just one stroke and it's done!
With Mudbox I can't achieve the same result.
If i request a video for to make a good folds in Mudbox :D ? ehhh...
And, I think a series of video for architectural visualization it's a good idea. Just a suggestion... There not a good video (both Zbrush and Mudbox).
Anyway I want to change from ZBrush to Mudbox, so I think you see me more timesin the next months :)
Bye and thanks again!

Good to see you over here Francesco.I recognise you as a very passionate Max user(and author of the most beautiful CG book out there) at CGT.
I'm looking forward to seeing some of your Arch works creates using Mudbox(which i also migrated to from ZB)
And knowing how determined you are to work with a user friendly UI,i just know you're going to love Mud. ;D

Ahhh.... ;D the Ribbon thread ? Damn! How to destroy a good UI ( old PB interface).
I love the very simply UI of Mudbox. I hope AD don't want to add this stupid Ribbon...
Anyway, this is my last little project. As you can see, it's time to use MB for my house's objects.
All this is done in max and PS. Obviously, some object is in beta like the coconut. Now you can understand why I want to learn Mudbox.
I need also a good 3d Painting software. But I see that in Mudbox we don't have any color randomize when I Paint with a solid color, like in ZBrush. :(

AAAHHHHHHHHHHhhhh!! Not the ribbon......noooo ;D
Wow,they are some beautiful renders. The shaders,in particular the rope is superb. I have been thinking about switching to V-ray from MR. My only concerns are:how is it for animated characters and how good is the SSS shader for skin?
In mud you can have your soid colour work with a stamp when painting to areak up and randomise the surface.

Thanks :) , you can see a Rope modeling tutorial in my web site.
In VRay 1.5 SP3 there are the new, fast and beautiful VRayFastSSS2. Superb for skin. Obviously, you must have a good 2D map painting.
Just a suggestion. Try VRay for one month ;)
PS: you can randomize the "Brush" using the stamp, but not randomize, for example, the hue, saturation etc... like in ZBrush. In MB you must combine multiple diffuse layers.
Randomize a hue, saturation etc.. it's a lot time saver!

Hi Wayne,
thanks! No help for my folds problem/request ;)
Actually there are a shed load of ways of doing folds in mudbox. IN wave 2 of the ground up in the first couple of parts I'm pretty sure I covered one of the easiest ways... Those should still be up over at the area, although I'll be upping the high res for the entire ground up series wave 1 and 2 pretty soon. I've been taking a break from any new videos for a few weeks after the birth of my daughter.
