Weekly challenge #4: 'Franken ' ? '
Rules:
1 - You may create your own base mesh for this one
2 - Models may be textured or raw sculpts but must be done in mudbox.
3 - Other apps such as max, maya, xsi, lightwave etc are allowed for creating objects as part of the scene (belts, clothes etc...)
4 - You may take as long as you wish on this one, but it must be done within 7 days from starting it.
5 - No using any old or exsiting models
OK the idea for thisweek challenge comes from a doodle I did on my po ket sketch pad while standing outside having a smoke.... Take a well known person and turn them into frankenstein's monster. This is a harder challenge as you have to retain the likeness of the person as well as adding in the rest of it. The person may be living or dead as long as everyone has heard of them (if not please supply a photo of them.)
This challenge should give everyone something to get their teeth into. As with all the weekly challenges feel free to join at any point as the whole reason for this is to help everyone improve. If I get a chance I'll take part.

This sounds fun.Hopefully, the interest picks up on these challenges as it would be great to see the Hub really take off and reach the heights of ZBC.
I inadvertently made a bit of a Franken lookalike on last weeks challenge ;D

'Franken-Hitler'
From the back door doodle while having a smoke...I'm aiming for Hitler at the end of his life in the bunker (well thats sort of obvious if he's going to be Frankensteins monster lol). The question is does making him into Frankenstiens monster make him a bigger monster or less of one? ;) There's a bit of a artistic meaning conundrum for you all. ;) (See my art can say something important from time to time. :) )

nice one mate.Got a good likeness going there already. The font is a nice touch.I would say it would make him less of a monster considering Frankensteins montrous nature was created by the Herr Doktor Franken. ;D Plus the fact that the real Nazi monster was Heinrich Himmler.Anywho,i'll back up on the digressions.
i'm in a bidding war at Ebay for a Wacom.I'm beginning to realise that the mouse just dosn't cut it. ;)
Like to see Adolf progress.Keep it comin Wayne.

Nice light... im sure ya mentioned these were parametric with linear gamma setup didnt ya?

That light setup is a careflly balanced pair of photometric lights under a tweaked linear setup. I try not to go into to many specifics as its a setup I keep for the models on dashdotslash as a rule.

I still havn't looked into exporting a light rig from Max.But i sure do like that stone type shader and light setup you use.

When exporting your light rig..use an existing model to sort of calibrate when you see in mud..from then on it'll look 99% the same although obviously without any GI etc.... I've been experimenting with a photometric clay shader of late..although its still not quite there.

when using PM lights from Max,does Mud recognise different .IES files? It's an interesting approach.also, have you experimented with creating an SSS type skin mat in Mud?
cheers.

As you are baking to a 32 bit float format it doesn't matter....it'l be picked up. But what wont be picked up is any MR Exposure settings that you may have active in your render. I use a very simple shader for painting skin...I dont need the ssss effect the way I work as I've been doing it the hard way so long that I dont miss not having it. So I concentrate on the spec response and reflectivity of the skin instead.

The franken hitler looked nice.. images seem to be gone but from what i remember they looked pretty cool.
I wanted to participate in this one also.. just couldn't find an interesting character to frankenfy..
When is this challange over? If we still got time I might try make a franken dude.

You've still got time :) The next one may be slightly delayed due to recent events.
I'll try and get the pics back up at some point.

Ooops looks like I made a mistake. It was never intended for the challenge anyway but reading the challenge rules thing I see my model doesnt actually apply. Oh well lol
