Nice! can we see a non textured version as well? is that Mental ray w/ Displacements or the high rez guy imported?

mental ray with high res mesh in maya. I haven't done any displacement maps on characters in while, i usually just render the hi res.
here are some images of the model, i think it still has some issues, but i'm getting kinda tired of it, so i may just call it finished soon

Fuck yeah Peter! Im really diggin the torso treatment. The textures are looking good too. When you started this guy I wasnt too into him. But now you've changed my mind. Glad to see this one's still on your plate.

Looking good Peter, although the area just above the knees bothers me...maybe something more anorexic type looking would help. Torso I can't fault, looks great. :) BTW its pretty easy to get a spot on disp map in maya with metal ray although depending on your polycount it may change render times. Are you planning on a fine level bump map at the end for the uber fine stuff?

Great work Peter. Just a design note(which is just a personal taste thing), the body feels a bit too human compared to the head.
Very nice model anyway.
cheers

thanks for the crits and comments. I agree that the body is probably too human for the type of head. I was trying to take my own spin on the traditional "gray" alien.
the knee areas has bothered me wayne, good eye on that. I think my final composition will be what is in the current render so I probably won't address it further.
i was playing around with an environment and i threw this together to see if it would work. I haven't really gone into texturing it, it is really just one material and one texture to see if it'll work.. He does have a more aquatic feel to him, so I actually just came up with the idea of him being in some sort of underwater lab. I was thinking of maybe modeling a glass dome with some water scenery behind it. we'll see if i have enough left in me to pursue it :)

Great looking stuff! I really like the bicept/deltoid/pectoral flow in the bottom middle image, nice stuff! The feet are really interesting as well, like how the little pinky toe is set off a bit, nice touch.

check it out, i got the head printed out. A sample from Morpheus Prototypes here in LA. The quality is really amazing. there is no noise on the print at all, it captured a lot of nice detail. I'm really impressed with the quality of this print.

I really do like your alien, great sculpting!
The printed head is amazing! All the details are there. How much it did cost to you to get it printed?

it was a sample print given to me by Morpheus so they could show me what their printer is capable of, but it would have gone for about $250. generally, it is about $100 per inch
