I thought it'll be a good idea if everyone introduces who they are, what experience level and if they work in the industry, where (that last one can be skiped if you work somewhere liable to get lots of fanboy IM's lol), age etc... Hopegfuly it'll help everyone to get to know each other a bit better.

Hi!

I'm Tony aka dmonk. I've been on cg message boards for a while now (Before cgtalk was cgsociety and even before it was actually cgtalk.)

I'm a mudbox/xsi user and I make kick ass chilli. I'm also a mod here, so drop me a line if you need a hand with anything.

I'll introduce myself properly later but at the moment I'm keeping it a secret. I've messed around with a few of the applications not an expert but know enough to hold my own. Need anything feel free to yell at me.

And a Hi to Mr southern and Mr Robson ::)

Haloo...

Iam Glen Southern. I only own Mudbox v1 so I'm a little green with all the recent goings on. I've been using ZBrush since 1999 but have always struggled with the lack of camera movement and poor perspective. I've been working on non 3D related stuff for 18 months so it's nice to be back and modeling. I'm currently working on a full series of free SILO tutorials with the nevercenter team.

Like Doug I struggled with some of the registration questions. I got my number of arms correct but I was stumped with the 7 plus 20 question. I like `who wants to be a millionaire` where the questions start off easier...lol

Bryan Silva
02-02-2009, 09:47 PM
What up, Bryan Silva here. Been doing 3d professionally for about 4 years now as a character artist. Character heads are what I enjoy most. I love doing blendshapes and seeing them come to life. Worked in games at first now in films. Working at Image Movers Digital at the moment on a retelling of Charles Dickens classic, "A Christmas Carol" starring Jim Carey as more than a few of the characters. He has such a wide range of motion and control with his face. Its been a blast working on his shapes. The movie'll be coming to a theater near Christmas of 09. Im a mostly self taught artist who really values a good forum while it lasts. So many become fanned out or deserted. I been a mudbox user since the beta of its 1st release. That, I have to say was the best forum I've ever participated in. Hopefully this forum will become reminiscent of that.

Cheers

Wayne

Thanks for taking the time to join the forum and help build things up into a good community. There seems to have been a rash of great forums either close or become a shadow of their former selves the last 12 months or so. Fingers crossed maybe we can capture a little bit of that magic here if all goes well. Feel free to post older mud images...mainly as I want to get those standin ones off top row on the front of the site ASAP lol.

Hey all, Kris Taylor here, been using Mudbox since 1.0 beta. Mostly interested in characters and creatures, started out in the games industry in 1996, still there, recently Co founded RedFly Studio and am now developing games for Nintendo Wii. Started out as a character/creature sculptor, but we actually used clay and had to scan them into the computer with the good old digibot laser scanner, heh now I want to sculpt digitally and have it printed to a physical copy, we have come a LONG way!!!

Thanks for kicking this off Wayne!

Hey there, fellow sculptors! :D

I'm Chris, or Freespace in some forums. I'm really excited to see Mudbox getting the respect and tender care it deserves after clearly prooving that you don't need a Subterranean Neputne interface to be able to do sculpting.

I'm sure this forum's got a long way to go, and there going to be some awesome work showcased here along with lots of crits and feedback for everyone to share. Let's get the ball rolling!

Ello Everyone,

Some of you may know me as spirit2029 from different forums, my name is actually Chris. I have been dabbling with 3d for over eight years now...wow just realized how long its been...last few years I havent been able to be as involved as I would like. But recently I have had a whole bunch of time spared up, so its back to hitting the learning curve hard and sharing my work and now finally trying to get into this industry as a professional. I have been using XSI since way back in the day when it was called Sumantra, anyone remember that?, and I used mudbox at first beta from skymatter after the king kong movie haha. Currently Im up to my neck in learning, studying a huge bible on mental ray so I can get it to do exactly what I want, re-examining techniques for character modeling and rigging, and also really pushing myself with mechanical modeling. Currently working hard on a fairly massive demo reel and a personal re-emergence. So very soon ill be posting some new work for everyone to pull apart here and on other forums, alot of character work especially as im learning mudbox. So ill see you all around, im going to support this forum as much as I can with critiques and possibly some modeling tutorials in a short while.

Thank you Wayne for setting the ball rolling on this forum, and for my love of character modeling again, your vids have been very helpfull please keep it up

Regards
Chris

Hia all!

My name is Oskar Kolmodin, though my alias is Hulahuga on the net and I'm probably the youngest member at this site.
I've been using Maya and Mudbox since spring 2008. Begun using PS actively lately.
I've been a trainee at Paradox interactive (only a short while since it was my so called PRAO, which we have here in Sweden).
I'm always trying to learn new things and I'm always open for constructive criticism and ideas.
I always find it fun to create stuff. Now with 3D I've finally been able to see it come to "life".

My name is alex robertson, and i'm an australia based aspiring 3d charcter artist primarily for games (rather that pure sculpting) -

Darkghosty
02-27-2009, 02:02 PM
Hey guys, Darkghosty here (Ryan Morency over on the area boards). I've been working in the 3d industry for 6-7 years now, mostly doing a lot of photoreal renderings not as much modeling http://www.ryanmorency.com/gallery.html if you want to check out my portfolio. Been doing a lot of animations and after effects stuff in the last 2 years, but I wanted to get more into the sculpting/modeling scene.

We use zbrush here at the office, but after some frustrations I decided to check out Mudbox and just purchased myself a copy for home about a week ago. So i've only really been using mudbox for about a month and i'm still getting my chops with sculpting techniques.

Personally i'm glad to see the Mudbox community trying to come together and create a good place to share ideas and images, thanks to everyone involved with this. Hopefully when i'm done practicing and learning i'll be posting some stuff up here too :)

Hi all.

My name is Robin Ball. I've been a videogame artist for something like 11 years.

I haven't so far worked on any high end games that required high res sculpts, but I've been getting into it in my spare time out of personal interest and a desire to expand my skillset.

I just bought my Mudbox license a couple of weeks ago and I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far.

I'm thinking of putting together a blog for my adventures in sculpting as I find updating my website a bit too much hassle for works in progress.

Howdy-do everybody.

My name is Robert Vignone and I'm 25 years old. I have been working in the VFX, Animation and Game industry for about 6+ years. Currently I am working on some personal projects (I should have some stuff up here soon), facial modeling for an upcoming animated short/feature and 1on1 model tutoring during my off hours. My main tool-set consist of Maya, Mudbox, UV Layout/Cyslice, Photoshop and Nuke.

I use to enjoy visiting the MB1 Skymatter forums and was sad to see the community get dismantled. I would love to see a new (and better) one form again here. Personally I frequent the ZB forum to see their top row stuff. Hopefully they will be coming here for the same reason!

See you all around!

Robert

Hi all,

My name is Carsten Lind, I am 37 years old and from Denmark. I've been in the CG industry for 20 years or so. Started out with web, moved on to 3D with 3DS v2 for DOS, over MAX, Alias poweranimator and now maya as main app.

For some 5 years I had my own little freelance business in Copenhagen, worked on TV commercials, TV Game shows and more. I am educated as a Mechanical Technical Assistant, but went from straight lines of the CAD universe to the more curved and fun within 3D. I have been tutoring Maya and also been "the demo guy" for the danish distributor of Maya here in DK.

Now I work at LEGO Systems as a Senior 3D Artist, mainly doing 3D artwork for the boxes. So if you want to see some of my work, go to the local toy store and look at DUPLO :P

I do not currently own a copy of Mudbox, but I own Zbrush for mac. However as many others I am getting irritated over the UI and cant wait till the guys at Autodesk finish the mac version - and then I will buy it!

I sculpt in my spare time, and still need to learn a lot. Especially about anatomy.

Hi My name is Tony. I live in a tiny place at the end of the world so forums are the only connection with others who are interested in 3D sculpting, so I hope this community grows. Ive been learning 3D modelling for a few years now. Started with amapi and Hexagon, bought z brush (It fought me all the way) and then found mudbox and the light shone in. Basically I just like sculpting and one day hope to become really good. Thanks Wayne for starting this and hope to contribute.

Hey guys,

My name is Lee and im from Liverpool in the UK.. I work freelance as a Games consultant and game modeler but im trying to learn a bit of animation and sculpting so im now to this stuff. I mainly use MAX, tried zbrush but there is a pretty silly learning curve and found Mudbox great as its pretty easy to navigate, and i love layers :).

Greetings all, my name's David and I'm currently studying animation at QANTM college in Sydney, Australia. This year we'll mainly be focusing on Maya and Mudbox, so I thought it would be a good idea to get involved in a community like the Hub :)

Hi all,
I'm Lee Medcalf I've been a hobbyist and professional 3D person for around 15 years on and off... Started off with Turbo Silvers Imagine 2.0 on the Commodore Amiga A500 from the front of Amiga Power. Since then I upgraded to an Amiga A1200 and got in to Lightwave. Used LW for about 10 years including professionally doing pre vis and design work for a in house FX unit at Elstree Film Studios in the late 90's. Then left to do Graphics support at Turner Broadcasting (cable company that has channels such as CNN, TCM and Cartoon Network in the building). Moved back to 3D full time for Cartoon Network and had to learn Maya as a consequence.

So now using Maya 7/ 8 / 8.5 / 2008 / 2009 (depending on workstation *roll eyes* ;))

I got myself a copy of Mudbox a couple of weeks back and bought Digital Tutors training CD's for it too (been an expensive month LOL) and now just want to get in to doing some stuff both for work and for personal stuff....

Probably going to ask a lot of dumb questions so apologies in advance... I've messed with Zbrush before and Mudbox looks similar (but less mad on the UI layout) so I hope it'll be fairly straightforward to pick up...

Anyway glad to see a community for the app appear look forward to hanging around :)

Cheers

Wayne

Hey every one, my name is Tony also! :) I am a professional LAMP developer who studied Art at College and now jobless wants to return to making games or game art. I struggle with Zbrush and I've been to SIGGRAPH back in 2005 in LA and met many fine people there. But when I first saw and tried MUDBOX (after looking at Silo) I was hooked. Now I am no expert but love to learn and improve myself. One day I would like to make some money at this creative stuff!

Right now I am trying to make a game for the iphone using Mudbox for asset creation. Dunno how to make exports of my stuff to anything else yet! LOL!

I would like someone to start a thread on photoshop brushes already imported to Mudbox so that others like me can mess around with cool brushes. I am on a Mac and the PC import stuff don't work for me. HINT HINT! :P

I look forward to being productive in art and getting lots of inspiration from everyone!

Peace,

Tony

Its pretty eay to convert phothop brushes into mud format... one of teh QuickStart videos covers it in fact. The only reaosn I dont share mine is that many are from specific sets and it would be a right royal pain in the arse to go asking premission to share them as stamps from each creator of each brush set.

Hey everyone, I'm Reilly. Currently I'm a texture painter/mudboxer working in LA at Rhythm and Hues Studios. I really enjoy both Z brush and Mudbox, and really just sculpting in general. Personally, I think the coolest thing about Mudbox is how simple it is to pick it up and run with it. MB has a simple and easy to understand interface and workflow which help you stay focused on whats important, SCULPTING!

All of us at R and H are very thankful for Mr. Robson's quickstart tuts and for this forum. I've heard several people talking about needing a place to post cool MB work, and now we have it! I'm really looking forward to seeing work from all the awesome artists out there!

o/ all. I see a lot of old names in here.......old farts the lot of ya ').

Anyway, I'm Shea. Been in architecture about 10 years now, and during that time have managed to shove myself into a 'rendering artist' role (didn't feel much challenge in drafting/design after enough years & got bored). Been kind of drunkardly stumbling my way around 3d since. Most of my off time work in the recent past is decidedly not architectural related, & w/ some luck hope to make a push out of it in the not so distant future.

Anyway, good to see everybody.....happy sculpting.

hey everyone, my name is Ben. Im work in drafting/design and would like to make a transition into this field at some point, but im not rushing. I was originally looking for a drawing program (sketchbook, painter 11) and i came across mudbox and was instantly hooked. I installed the program last week (5/15/09) so im still tryin to learn all the advanced and non-advanced techniques for the program.

anyway, have fun "Boxin"

Hi, my name is Johan Vikstrom. I work for Swiss International AB in Stockholm Sweden. We where approched by autodesk to test the new beta for mudbox 2009 and after that I've been hocked! At Swiss I work with both comp (shake) and 3d (maya, xsi).
Good work on the site I must say, really good quality stuff here.

Hi, my name is Raffaele, im a 24 years old game design student at the academy of arts in zurich.
I am trying to learn things that are not covered at school on my own. I would say i am focusing on becoming competent in creating a character from the beginning to the end, from the concept, throught the sketching, modeling, highres modeling, texturing mapping etc etc to the game engine. I decided to focus on mudbox because i have some experience with 3dmax and i assume the interoperability is better between 2 programs of the same company (autodesk).
also, the chatotic and totally noob-unfriendly interface of zbrush was a huge turn-down.

I will be asking a bunch of newbie questions in dubious english, please be patient!

Greetings,
I'm Mont. I am just starting into the 3D modeling world and have found Mudbox to be, easily, the best tool available to launch from.

I am interning in a VFX shop in the midwest US, and I am trying to expand my skill sets. I am particularly interested in character modeling and sculpting.

As I'm a novice, you'll most definitely be hearing from me in the future, searching for tips and suggestions.

As a side note: Mr. Robson, your "Groundup" videos are incredible. They have helped me get a handle on the UI and have provided valuable insight into modeling approaches. Keep up the good work!

Well your in very good company..you'd be suprised the people and companies who have copies of the ground up and quickstart series. ;) Its on the shelves of some very high profile firms....not sure how that exaclty happened mind you....it just sort of took off lol. I'm glad they helped you out.

You dont have to call me Mr...when people call me that its usualy my bank manager trying to get more cash out of me. :) I like to feel that we're all on 1st name terms here on the hub.

Welcome and I hope you and the other new members enjoy yourselves. You may find it a little quiet until the next release as some of us can't show anything we've been working on yet...although you wont have long to wait. ;)

G'day Guys,
Adam Shaw here.. Ive been a Character Artist / 3d Animator for about 4 years now, tho just descided to take some time off and get back to my modelling roots and learn how to use mudbox properly to improve my characters.. any type of fantasy characters are what i enjoy, everyone loves a good monster lol ..ive only played around in Mudbox for a short time and found it soo much better to use and understand than the other apps out there..

Im still beginning when it comes to sculpting, even tho i can model well enough, never really needed it untill now. so hopefully being around everyone on this forum, and with the help of Wayne's coming book and Wave 1 dvds, i'll be able to improve!

Thanks Guys, nice to meet you all.

Nowadays I'm employed as a 3D teacher at Skovde University, and I am looking forward the release of Mudbox 2010.

Hey there!

First of all: Please excuse my bad english, I hope you understand, what I'am trying to say ;)

I'am a 25 year old Media-Designer from Münster in Germany and my core skills are webdesign and -development and this is what I mainly do in a advertising agency.
Because I always where interested in arts I wanted to get back in that area because my work is mainly design and design is more a handcraft then art ;) I started with the 3D stuff. One year ago I started with Maya and tried out a lot and learning a lot about 3D in general. I think this is very interesting because there is a big bunch of technical stuff to know and you can do art with it.

Character design is most interesting for me and so I wanted to get started with zBrush ... but after a few weeks of trying around and looking for some good tutorials I decided to give it up ... not that I think zBrush is bad or something but it is not the right tool for me because I spent more time on using the tool then doing artwork.
Two weeks ago I stumbled over Mudbox and I have to say it is GREAT! Easy to use and very intuitive. And after viewing of some videos by Wayne Robson I really get in to it and started my first character after trying out this and that ... i think in one week or so I can post my first work und hope for some good tips and a lot of critics to learn more and more ...

Since I learn everything concerning my job or 3D and so on by myself and with the help of tutorials, books and videos I'am happy with finding this forum.

And I talk/write to much ... so let's just make some art! ;D

Peace!

Hey all,

I'm a student wrapping up my undergraduate degree in "Digital Media", sort of an all-too-broad program that tries to encompass fine art and 3D and interactivity and web... it's sparked in me a great interest in 3D, but it has also sparked a realization that I absolutely won't find any work in 3D unless I look for resources beyond the class and work for myself (and then it'll still be really tough!). So I'm here to pick up what I can, get inspired, and maybe offer a critical eye where I can from a design perspective.

I'm most interested in eventually applying my skills to interactive 3D worlds, whether with game rules or simply for artistic reasons, or both. People say the age when one or two people in a basement could make a successful computer game is gone with the age of high-poly 3D worlds and AAA blockbuster games, but many independent creators have denied that lately. I feel like with the release of tools that are more sophisticated but easier to use, more and more 3D games will be able to be created by artists with a singular vision. Of course, it will probably be many years for me to acquire the skills to find out...

Anyway, Wayne, I really appreciate the tutorials for mudbox '09 you put up on The Area, they're helping me out a lot.

Hi everyone. I figured I would introduce myself and hope to not make this too long.

My name is Jameson, I am in the US-living in New Jersey. I am not even 30(soon though) and already making a pretty big career change.

I have a degree in Industrial Design from CCS(College for Creative Studies) Detroit. So of course my specialties have always been cars, but I have been doing toy design for the past few years.

I was always drawing, from a young age, it was always cars. I only knew of pencil sketching until I tried getting into college a decade ago and needed to diversify my portfolio.

After a couple of years of basic foundation computers were introduced to me. First the basics like Photoshop and 2d like Cobalt Velum. Then came 3d Studio Max. I liked it quite a bit.

Then I tried taking Alias. The instructor was an Alias god and even he said it was a bitch of a program to learn. I just never put in the time. Next came Rhino 3d-Nurbs modeling. Man I took to that.

I began playing in Rhino in my spare time at work, making things like cars and motorcycles from scratch, inside and out, hundreds of pieces all bolted together. I like working from manipulating basic primitives. I see things from what I can carve or sculpt out of them using booleans and the like.

So what brings me here?

Well after a few years of being a designer, I found myself sort of being a product manager. Less drawing, less 3d modeling, and more mundane crap. I really miss being an ARTIST. So I would get a kick out of working in Rhino on my own. I always yearned for something a bit more organic than the kind of stiff world of Rhino's Nurbs modeling always provided.

So after a shitty economy killed 4 of the past toy companies I worked at, and paying hundreds to commute to a job that was making me ILL, my wife begged me to quit. I did.

In the meantime a friend with a well seated production company had hounded me for years saying I am good at 3d, if only I would learn something like Maya and animate.

So talk is cheap. I signed up for Maya classes. That led to the instructor showing a demo on Mudbox.

Wow.

Sold.

So I just bought Maya/Mudbox/3d SMax as a combo thanks to being a student again. Before it gets here I bought a new PC to run it, which needs upgrading and a new Wacom tablet. In the mean time I have been watching countless Youtube demos. I thought Waynes were some of the best and following a few links brought me here.

I am a bit scared. I have second guessed my talents and abilities and feel like I forgot what being an artist was like. You guys and all these speed sculpts make it look so easy. I am hoping with some time invested I get some confidence up.

I hope to absorb all that I can from being here. There are a lot of things with wheels in my portfolio. But I remember being younger and making my own monsters and characters and even making my own cartoons. I am looking forward to that loose creativity again.

In the mean time here are a couple of work samples showing my foundations in sketching/modeling etc. Thanks!

Hi All,

I'm a VSFX Student at the Savannah College of Art and Design, minoring in Animation. Our school just picked up a hundred or so seats of Mud and for my first Senior Project (aka VSFX Studio 1), I was asked to test it out and write a couple of tutorials before it's released to the rest of the school; which is how I wound up here at Mudbox Hub.

My strengths are in poly-modeling and I have a great fondness for digital materials and textures. As of now, I've been strictly trained in Maya but as soon as I get bootcamp running, I plan to see what the big deal is about MAX.

Artistically, I've grown weary of reality and have started dipping into the realm of hyper-realism and horror/fantasy subjects. Honestly, I live in reality; I don't feel the need to recreate it but to enhance it. I recently met Rick Baker of Hollywood monster-makeup fame, at a little conference, here in Savannah, and have been charged with all kinds of energy since learning that he's also been delving in digital sculpture.

My animation history has basically led me to the necessary evil that is rigging and has taught me many neat and interesting tricks. From a modeling standpoint, I think of my characters as digital maquettes and I don't see them as being "complete" until they're sculpted, painted and movable.

I'm excited to be a Mud sculptor and to unveil my first, complete Mud character, next week in the Quarterly VSFX show for our school. Along with my work and a few lectures that I've been asked to do, I'm proud to be bringing Mud to my community :)

Cheers All and thanks to those of you who have already shown me your support :D

Hello all, thought I might as well introduce myself.

My name is Scott Cannon and I'm a hobbiest as far as art goes, been drawing since I could hold a pencil (Dad was an art teacher so it is in the blood :P )... I started doing 3d art work back when 3DS Max was first released and fell in love with it.

I pretty must do still lives concentrating on lighting and composition. I am currently trying to learn human modeling and must say that Mudbox is a very very nice tool. It not only helps in terms of allowing me to sculpt like I would with clay but it also is very nice to start texturing (I don't think I will ever be able to not tweek my textures in Photoshop, but starting them in Mudbox certainly helps :) )...

The other thing I love about Mudbox is the fact that the interface is so very familiar to me, that other sculpting program might have more features but the interface is so overwelming that I don't think I was even able to find most of them.

Anyway looking forward to chating with you all and hopefully getting some good C&C to improve my work.

Oh and Wayne thank you for being such a great assest to the digital art community, your ground up videos are amazing and have helped me pick up Mudbox very quickly. Still a ton to learn but the vids helped to kick start it!

Hello Mudbox people.

The names Chris and I'm a professional 3d artist. 7 years of Maya, 4 years of max, & 3months of Mudbox. Oddly, those 3 months have increased the quality of my work and workflow like you wouldn't believe. The Hub is my new home/school so expect to see me around often. I've got loads to learn and look forward to it.

If you have an interest in digital sculpting this is the place to come. Check out Wayne Robson's DVDs. They'll show you everything you need to know to get you going.

Just a quick post to say hello, I am a student currently studying through college and I am focusing on level and environment creation I appreciate to be involved in this community. I've recently got my hands on mudbox 2010 and it's everything i could want and more.

Thanks to Wayne I was pushed towards Mudbox rather than Zbrush and I'm not regretting that decision at all, following some of your tutorials has helped me greatly and I look forward to learning this program fully and getting a few WIP's up on here for crits and feedback.

Hi again

Thanks, Vocari

hi there
names Daniel. 23M Just started learning 3d last sep 08 and have been trying to better myself and get into the industry. My primary software is Lightwave but will switch over to Maya and Cinema4D. Ive messed around with zbrush before and took forever to learn the interface, but finally got the hang of it. But too many steps to achieve something i could achieve in Mud with 1 click.
Now im not hating on zbrush but i just like mudbox better. personal choice.
I hope to learn more about Mudbox and be a part of this comunity.

Thank you, and thank you Wayne!

hello,
My name is Steven and I’ve been a CG artist for about 3 years, I’m striving to make this my future career.
The CG programs I use are Maya, Mudbox, and thanks to Wayne, Topogun. Thanks Wayne. Topogun has greatly increased my work efficiency. I haven’t posted any work on here but I plan to in the future.
I hope to learn a lot from you all and maybe you could put me on the right track to eventually land a job in CG.
Why Mudbox? The GUI is simple and user friendly. I also love sculpting, I find it relaxing.

Regards Steven

Hi there Steven and welcome. Quick question qhat is this topogun you speak of, thanks. is it the same as the retopligizing tools in Zbrush? or is it an addon for Maya?.

Hi, Topogun does retopologize your sculpture, however it is not a plugin for Maya, it's a stand alone program.
If you're looking for a plugin that works in maya,
then maybe you would be interested in DRaster Nex, here is the link. http://draster.com/nex-1.5/ However it isn't cheap. Plus keep in mind that Maya can slow down with a higher polycount!

Hi.
Im new here. Im a hobby person. Hobyist or something like that. Doodled around in 3d apps about 7 years ago, and then recently go an interest again. Mostly due to having spent one too many nights doing nothing but watch TV.

Its so much fun to be back in it again, although the fiance is becoming bitter for my inability to listen to her talk while i play around in CG.

All in the name of fun i say.

Cheers

I discovered Mudbox and it's amazing power through doing some 3D Prints for David Goode (http://www.david-goode.com/)
Have been keeping an eye on the world of 3D Modelling and have found this area of sculpting the most intersting by far. The first time I pushed and pulled those polys it made me think what the hell have I been doing trying to model in 3ds max.

Anyhow, I am on this forum to learn and get inspired, and the social virtual is important to me too.
So much talent.

Hello,

My names joe or m0_joe as in more joe. I like to cook and damn good at it. Hence everytime I make something for someone, it's always More Joe More Joe....logical conclusion mojo.

Anyways, I have been doing traditional art as a hobby since I was a teenager (I am now 34). About 10 years ago I dabbled in the 3ds max world for a few years. Then real life happened.

Recently got laid off and decided to take a Certificate course in 3D modelling and VFX. It was so much fun 2 years of regular school compacted into a 1 year certificate course, intense!

Anyways I just graduated (end of April) and I now get to start doing the fun stuff. My own work, nothing dictated by a teacher or constrained by assignment guidelines. Although that being said, I still set my own guidelines for completion just to stay on top of things.

Not to plug myself but my website is in my profile with my demo reel. Feel free to critic it for me. I would love to hear honest feedback (especially from people in the industry).

Everyone I know, they are not artists so they think everything I do is amazing...lol...how little they know. "...that's amazing, I could never do that!" I hate hearing that....lol.

That's enough, time to sculpt!

PS I love Mudbox!

Hi everyone, my name is Jeff Carnal. I am an artist currently living in Council Bluffs IA and I love it here. But as you may have heard a rolling stone never gathers moss and I will be picking up and moving shortly to Denver were I will start grad school at DU. After that I will move where ever I have to in order to find employment. I like the idea of working in the entertainment industry but I have time to think about that. I was a junior year physics major at Creighton University and was headed towards engineering, when I found the possibilities and applications of digital modeling and prefab visualization more appealing. I will always be an artist no matter what career path I choose. I work in, pastel, oil, watercolor, airbrush in acrylic and urethanes, pyrography, and have even dabbled in Tattoos; all my work can be found if you snoop around my blog at jcarnal.com. OK, that is traditional art, digitally I am learning as fast as possible and I have made some great progress along the way. It is easy to find a humbling perspective when browsing the digital artist social sites and viewing other artist’s portfolios. I always strive for the superlative in all my artwork and I believe that every shortcoming is necessary to better realize not only how far I have come as an artist, but also how far I have left to go. The digital work that I have done recently has defiantly excelled and I feel that my adept art skills have finally found a practical use in my educational pursuits. I can not get enough information and have had to restrain myself from taking up other digital programs; I want to do more and more. I have become addicted to tutorials and am currently subscribed to both digitaltutors.com as well as Lynda.com.

Hi Wayne! Mudwalker looks terrific, but I can't install it properly... First I will present myself though, as I am supposed to do!

My name is Eric, I live in Canada (Quebec) and I work in 3D/film VFX. I am not that good in Mudbox, but I want to learn how to use it more often to improve my Maya modelling (and realism). I still think it's hard to move my models from Maya to Mudbox, because all the subdivisions, booleans, and geometry with an uneven edges distribution compute weirdly in Mudbox.

Mudwwalker looks awesome, but after trying to install it 4-5 times, I just can't make it work. It works in Maya 2010 but I get this error when I open Mudbox:

"Mudbox::LoadPlugins: Failed to load the following plugin(s):
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Mudbox2010\plugins\MudWalker1.5.mp"

(and then in the log...)

"Loading plugin C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Mudbox2010\plugins\MudWalker1.5.mp
Could not load, error code: 127, (0x0000007F), error message:
The specified procedure could not be found.
Reporting error:

line: 0
function: (null)
message: Mudbox::LoadPlugins: Failed to load the following plugin(s):
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Mudbox2010\plugins\MudWalker1.5.mp"

I am sorry, I have read the thread, the help files and followed the installation instruction the best I could, downloaded the latest fbx, etc... It works in Maya but not mudbox 2010.

My computer is:

win 7 64bit
Maya/Mudbox 2010

Thanks!

After seeing Wayne's videos I was convinced that this is the place to do it. I look forward to getting to know everyone, and i'll try to be as active as time permits.
