Hi,

I was wondering if someone could explain to me the uses of the orthographic and perpective viewpoints in mudbox.

I've played around briefly with sculpting in both zbrush and mudbox and I've transferred meshes from one to the other to see what they looked like and could not believe the difference. (Zbrush's default viewpoint being orthographic and mudbox's being perspective.)

Am I right in thinking that orthographic view would be used more for illustrative work and perspective view for 3D asset creation, such as game and film characters?

I'm new to all this, so a jargon free explanation would be appreciated.

Orthographic views can be used along with image planes to ensure that your mesh is as close as possible to the shape of your designs concept are or reference.

Thanks Wayne,

I am inferring from your reply that when sculpting a 3D model, your default viewpoint should be in perspective, with the the occasional check in orthographic. If this is the case, why is the default viewpoint in zbrush orthographic? Isn't that going to confuse things a bit?

HAHA the inner workings of offers mind who writes zbrush is a mystery to many including pixo themselves lol. There are many ways of working, but yes thats one way of usingthe ortho views.

Cheers Wayne,

... I still like zbrush though, despite (or maybe because of) it's weirdness. Having no 3D background, all it's eccentricities don't bother me, as everything is pretty new and weird (but exciting!)
