hi all.
I've seen this topic disscussed on other forums but i'd like to hear from more Mudbox 2009 users.
Im currently in the process of building a new desktop (for home)...in hopes of finale getting a chance to run Mudbox 09 at its best.
My current system/video card dosent support Ambient Occlusion and bogs down when adding more than 3 texture layers.
Biggest question for those of you out there :
What type of video cards are yeilding the best results?

Been doing research and as everyone knows Autodesk only lists Nvidia Quadro FX family.
But also read some of the latest GTXs are running Mudbox just as well.
Quadros are pricey for a home system.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm still using my year old 9800 GT with no problems. Although a newer card is probably advisiable now.

Thanks Wayne for the reply.
From your demos looks like your machine handles fine. :)
Not alot of info of comparisons from Quadro Series (Autodesk recommended) to say other nvidia cards.
With so many cards and drivers out there..Autodesk has no way to test all platforms more than likely.

Are you using factory driver for GT or as i've read doing a softmod using a Quadro FX driver?

..m currently running on 2 workstations having different cards thats being discussed, a mid-end Quadro FX and a 9800 GT and i must say the GT performed better for me than the quadro FX, i dunno if its because it's mid end or some driver misconfiguration (thyre the same 512 by the way)....just a suggestion, i think the new generation GTX's (280,295) will deliver better..

I use the bog standard driver for it, although sometimes I do get advance drivers from a mate who work at nvidia. (Altough to be fair they are usually around on the driver beta sites anyway by then.)

The only problem that the 9800 and 9 range in general can suffer from is the infamous 'white screen of death' where a graphics driver crash locks you out of saving in mud or other apps. I've been trying to convince nvidia to sort that bug out for nearly a year.

ditto on the 9800 GT it sings along fine... mins only 512 which is a bit limp for textures but i can use it for now - deffo recomend spending more tho.
