Hi Wayne,
I'm sure you are exceptionally busy, especially at the moment with the new Mudbox. But
I'm very curious at how you got to where you are today.
Can you, or anyone else for that matter, fill me in on your career/bio?
How did you get into 3D in the first place? (considering you've had many other careers)
How did you establish yourself as a freelance artist? did you make a sudden jump or did you ease into it by starting to do jobs in your spare time?
And how did you get involved with Mudbox? From what I've read it seems you were involved from the beginning and maybe even worked at Weta?
thanks,
Alex

Nope I never worked at weta....although it is an interesting story of how I got into 3d etc...if I get time I'll type somthing up later today....although I fully expect people not to belive a damn word of it. lol (I've had some unbelievably crazy shit has happened on the road of my career....people really do think I'm joking when I've told people who have asked before.)
But if your really interested I'll sort something out later one. :)

lol probably worth while typing it once and getting it up here... im sure the question (or things relevant to it) will crop up time and time again. The escape artist thing has always intregued but Ive always thought it a little impolite to ask... am waiting for your straitjacket and handcuff escapes to appear on youtube :)

Since hollywood is looking for new material, maybe this story could be made into a movie (animated).

Ok... a few words... Explosives Licence... Robson and Jerome music video ....
Your right, there are some very radical things in there!!.. but why would you make it up.. wouldnt make any sense.
Maybe im just nosey but I enjoyed reading it - enough so that I recon it would make a good book - if ya ever had the desire to put it down properly etc. I couldnt interest people with my life story thats for sure.
Purly curious, but what sort of stuff did you do to win that tallent contest? and what was your fave escape trick?
What instruments to you actually play?
That lobe thing must be a total mind f**k for you... is that a guarenteed outcome? dont answer if your not comfy.. not sure id want to talk of it.

Oh no doubt someone will either accuse me of it or think it at some point.

Memory is a bit hazy..but I'm pretty sure it was a assortment of different stuff. My favorite escape..all of them that i did.
What instruments to you actually play?
Guitar, bass, drums, bit of keyboards, the banjo (learned for a bet) and whatever else crossed my path. I pick up instruments pretty fast.
That lobe thing must be a total mind f**k for you... is that a guarenteed outcome? dont answer if your not comfy.. not sure id want to talk of it.
The only certain thing with it is that nothing is certain..its the best guess of a sucession of doctors and specalists after 21 years of looking at it....not the only thing but the most 'interesting'. But hey I could be run over by a bus tomorrow so its no biggy..but yeah it does worry me sometimes.
The 1st 5 years were the worst learning to deal with it. After that its just part of normal life. I've had it this long and in a way it is meant to prove that never judge a person by there health problems...judge them by their deeds and actions.
I have to admit I did think long and hard today whether to edit that part out...I hope I dont end up regretting it.

Thanks for filling in the blanks...
Very personal thing to share... can understand your thinking on leaving it out. But am sure the people here will appreciate the details. Thats one of the things Ive liked about the site (as much as yer a local artist bloke to relate to).. it has that professional but human element which many places dont... ie doesnt come over as snobby with attitude haha
feels like an episode of This is your life. Wheres Mr Aspel and that red book.

That was a very interesting read wayne.. very interesting and inspiring. thanks alot..
Im glad u chose to keep the personal paragraph in there. I totally agree with steelsky, the forum here has a much more personal feel to it, not like some other forums where u take a number and get in line to get lost within the group of artists etc.
I give u a standing ovation for getting through the hardships u had thrown at you, and good on your for sticking it to anyone who was giving u sh*t.. To get where ur at now, is an amazing effort !!
I for one am extremely grateful for the amount of time u spend helping others and doing it for free most of the time, its not very often u can meet someone like u who will do that.. and you are right, i can't think of anyone else who does.
Thanks again for sharing such personal information, i hope there are many many many more years of 3D for you and everyone else to come! Bring on MudBox 2010!

I've always had one simple aim in life...when the time comes and (hopefully aged 400) I finally pop my clogs..should I actualy be wrong and there is actually a god of some sort, then I can say that I left behind more than I ever used up. The vids help towards that end in some small way.
At least thats the idea behind them.....

That is truly a Great story.
I know I call things awesome a lot, and I do mean every bit of what I've said, but this story is really something extraordinary!
I strongly encourage you, but it is as always your decision, to make this story of your life into a full book. I've 'til this point in my life actually never "known" a person who has such a story to tell!

One thing I am curious about....
How did you make the leap from learning 3D to actually doing it for a job and getting paid for it?
Did you freelance from the off?

I sat and learned for between 16 and 20 hours a day 7 days a week for 2 years before I even considered it. When peolpe start asking if you are available for freelance...its a good barometer that your ready.

Thanks for that Wayne.
I'm considering freelancing at the moment and do have some enquiries, so hopefully that's a good sign! :)
