I modeled the sabertooth in Modo and did the detailing in Mudbox.

It still needs a lot of work done to it and I'm still trying to figure out the anatomy so any comments and critiques would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

One thing that really stands out for me is that it looks more like a dog than a cat. You could be going for a dog look, but the moment I see sabre tooth, I think "wolverine's nemesis", THEN I think "cat". Rarely do I think "dog". I do know that "sabre tooth" means "large teeth", and therefore can relate to any animal, so if it is supposed to look like a dog, the rest of the this message

Why does it look like a dog? I think the main thing is the ears, cat's ears don't flop down.
The sabres themselves could probably be shifted towards the nose more. I would make the feet smaller in depth and maybe curl the toes more.

Keep in mind, these are my opinions, feel free to ignore them, but if it was my character, that is what I would look at.

Over all, I really like the proportions and the exaggeration is great. You look like you studied you anatomy for this piece.

Thanks agentx. I realize when people hear sabertooth they almost immediately jump to sabertooth tiger, but I just wated to try something a little different.

I was actuually going for a dog look which is why the ears are like that. I tried it with the ears up like a cat and it didn't fit what I was going for.

I was really struggling with the feet and your suggestions helped me see the problems with them. I also think I'm going to push the sabres forward a bit more.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Well, you acheive the dog look very well. Keep at it, the over all shape is good which is half the battle, and keep us updated.

dog vs cat semantics aside Id say hes got an interesting mood about him. Thats one thing I notice when Im modeling is that sometimes either my mood or the mood of the character can show up if I focus on it.

So what I'm seeing in this guy is a almost sort of "old hound dog" kind of droopy almost tired look to his face, the way his eyes & ears are. Its pretty cool when you can get emotions through a modeling process.

keep up the good work.
