This is for all your suggestions on what you would like to see added to the forum to make it more at home to you no matter how crazy the idea seems.

To add the quick reply box go to you profile >> Look and Layout Preferences and near the bottom change 'Use Quick Reply on Topic Display' to 'show on by default'. You'll then have the quick reply set up by default. We are looking into a better way of handelling it. We a re also looking into changing the returning to the forum after replies.

I'll see what I can do....although the back end is currenetly a nightmare to get around until we optimise it a bit. But it'll be in there somewhere...lol

No Problem, I'm trying to get as much done as I can before our new baby arrives, as that is bound to slow dev up for a week or three.

I'm sure she won't mean bad. :) Just needs some extra love first few weeks.
Another suggestion I'd have is a portfolio system like the one they have on 3dtotal or cgtalk, where users can upload some of their images in organized albums. This could be too much, but it would be useful later on when the forum will be more frequented.

Err......Actually we already have that ability.
Its simply a right royal pain in the arse to link to the main forum, we've a great plugin to handle it all but its not easy to work into this modded and messed about version of the forum software. Maybe once things calm down a bit Dave bates will have a go and sorting that out but I hate to put too much on his shoulders.
There was a lot of not so obvious stuff added suring the beta phase that has still to be fully intergrated as time allows. ;)

It would be cool if you could have this and other things like; litspheres (including how to use), lights and different "instruction threads" in its own section under the home part of the site. Like the work in progress section.

Hey guys,
I Really like the forum you've set up here Wayne. It's great to see such initiative made.
Smaller forums like this always feel so much more personal.
I'm a Chrome user and a big fan of their 'less is more' ethos.
In the spirit of "if you don't ask you don't get" I just wanted to raise my opinion on the header area, and I really hope you don't mind me saying so but it is much too large.
The top row images are a really great size and I've always been a fan of such features on the websites that employ them. But the area above it isn't particularly useful and is much too over padded with the graphics.
Instead of being able to load the page and see all the valuable information at once, I always have to scroll down a little bit first instead.
Of course bigger monitors don't really suffer from the same problem. But I'm at work right now and have taken a screenshot to illustrate the effect a 1280*1024 desktop has. With a reduced header size I'd be able to see all the forum headers and whether or not there are any new posts as soon as the page loads.

Hey Wayne, at mudboxhub.om (not/forum) you got a couple of sections, like rendering, texturing and such. Wouldn't it be much easier to access if you put all vids in one section though with different categories?
Wayne
03-01-2009, 08:03 PM
I want to make it so people have the least amount of hunting to find a video that they can, hence the differnt sections. I'm trying to keep it as close to a '2 click' rule as I can for each video with the minimum ammount of scrolling possible.. The whole front of the site will be getting a total overhaul at some point anyway to fit a few new things into it. But more on that closer to the time.

There is a way to do this, I'm not sure how well it works.. If you would like to add someone to your Buddy List just go into their profile and add them.. Image attached..
Great work on the forum! This is a blessed change from the "Area".
A couple points:
1) Does the MudboxHub watermark appear on every image uploaded automatically?
2) A quick reply option would indeed be helpful, as I read was mentioned earlier in this thread.

No I didn't want to impose this watermark on people and leave it up to them when the they wanted to add it or not. So it is up to the person themselves and theres no bais either way, it just helps to get teh boards name out there a bit.
2 - If you cannot see the quick post box at the bottom of each thread theres an option in your profile to switch it on. If you have trouble finding it I'll hunt out the place for you.

We're working on that as the code already exists for galleries, its juts a pain to intergrate.

This has probably already been suggested already, but the top row images, when clicked I would think should take you to that particular images post or topic. Is that in the works?

They used to I just haven't got around to modifying the links to the new domain yet. Things are pretty busy this side at the moment but I'll try and sort that tonight.

With a couple of tweaks, I've installed a thumbnail mod... This mod will only switch on in the digital sculpting subforums..
Let me know if it needs to be tweaked, or if you just don't like it..

I've got it working, though one thing I don't like about it; it chooses the smallest attached picture in the first post, not the first attached picture :(. It would be great if you just could upload a "thread picture".

Yeah it's far from ideal.. I'm in the process of seeing how different it is from making VB Mods to SMF mods.. the packaging is a little different..
Once I get that all sorted, I'll more than likely make my own and it will be what we want :)

Though the idea of a "thread picture" option is the best, I don't mind it chooses to set the smallest attached picture instead of the first. You're never going to attach a 100/100 pixel image to show off your model, and this way you really don't care about first image attached as the forum will automatically set the smallest one as thread picture. Extremely useful for WIPs, when you want to come back and edit your first post to update the thread image.
Thanks for putting it in, Dave!

Here's a suggestion for future Mudbox iterations ( service pack, or the rumored 2010 edition ): A dark skin option. I use it all the time in 3dsmax and it's much easier on the eyes, especially when you spend 8-10 hours/day in it.

I also agree with a darker interface, also prehaps having the ability to detach certain windows, eg the brush window and all the other ones, i know u can go into expert mode etc.. but i like as much realestate to work with as possible without having to keep switching..

You can already open custom brush windows in mud and fill them with whatever brushes you wish. :) I work alot in 'T' / export mode with just a small set of brushes I like.
