Some of you may remember this wip from a bit ago on other forums. I have found some time to continue with him and thought I'd share the progress. I have begun to work on FACS poses. For those of you not familiar with FACS it is research done by Paul Ekman on the faces muscles and how they can be combined to create every possible expression capable of man. This research has served as the basis of major film studios facial pipelines. We are using it on the show I am currently working on. It was also used by the team that brought us "The curious Case of Benjamen Button". Now it takes literally hundreds even stretching to a thousand shapes to do every combination. I have only started on a few so far. Nothing finalized so far. Just getting started. Here's a few I've been working on and a few of the shapes working together to create an expression. I guess I should also post a few images of him textured and the shader applied to him as he stands now in case you missed it from before elsewhere.

As I've said before Bryan, its one of the most spot on likenesses I've seen. While it'll be a whole world of work to sort out the idea of an animation is something I look forward to.
Wayne...
Bryan,
This is awesome, I have seen this before and like Wayne says the likeness is perfect. The expressions are great, where can I get more info on FACS?

Thanks a lot guys. No animations yet. Though scrubbing your layer opacity in mudbox is absolutely crucial when creating shapes. You want to have your neutral shape on the base layer and what ever shape you are working on in a layer. This way you can scrub the layer opacity slider and see the face moving from neutral to the shape. So do I have an animation no, but am I looking at the shape in motion yes. Perhaps I will post a gif file of a shape animating from neutral if I am happy enough with the look of one. I've been sculpting shapes for a few years now. Before in games now in film, but have yet to do a blendshape rig with combinations. Which is my intention with this project, to create a blendshape rig using FACS. Once I get through enough shapes i will start to do combination shapes and once I start that I will begin to build an interface for controlling it. If I can stay on task with this I will eventually try to do some sort of animation with it. I am also using this head as a means of gathering my thoughts for a Mudbox class I will be doing for CGworkshop's later this year. I am still trying to decide on what the synopsis of the class will be.
You can find more about FACS here: http://www.face-and-emotion.com/dataface/facs/description.jsp
The manual must be purchaced, however there are some samples of it there.
