Hi gang, using latest trial version and I have several questions

Is there anyway to
1. Marquee select, masking for example (kinda like Z does)?
2. if you can Marquee select, can you select through or both sides?
3. When using curves I'm not getting even results, strokes seem very uneven lumpy (using latest Wacom drivers on Intuos, works fine in Z and PS). Any ideas?

thanks in advance.

Hey dude. Good that you've found your way into the forum.
Here is the deal.
1. If you check out on sculpting tools, you'll find the mask brush, also a freeze brush. With these you "paint" on the areas you want and then their respective effects happens.
2. You can't select through, though if you go to the tools panel on the right side you can click on mirroring. This mirrors your marker with different axles. Which all are displayed to your choosing.
3. If you use a curve you have to snap your brush to it. Check out Wayne's tutorial ;). He explains it all.

Good luck.

Left and middle mouse button to drag selection with the face select brush. :) This then selects through the model.

Thanks for your responses. :)

That makes me a bit sad MB doesn't have marqueeing ability. We're using it primarily for game environments and getting a nice hard edge >quickly< is paramount. The face select tool seems inefficient for this as compared to marqueeing.
Also Wayne, I tried using the left and middle mouse button when I drag but it didn't do select through. Will keep investigating.

Gonna go over to the official forums and post a request to Skymatter for selecting via marquee and lasso.

Make sure that you have the face selection brush active, but I can assure you there is marquee selection already. ;)

I'm confused. Wayne, are you saying that painting the faces = marqueeing?
Because if so, I don't believe that to be true.

Also, of course, I do have the face selection brush active. :)

The point is painting faces is much more cumbersome to get a hard edge selection rather than Zbrushes, unless you haven't told me about some trick?
How would you quickly select half a sphere (including backfaces) and bulge in Mudbox with the least amount of steps?

Finally holding down the left and middle mouse simultaneously does not seem to get select thru backfaces .

Thanks in advance for your response.

Arathrax....I just test it seems to work for me, selects right through the mesh...

Are you not getting a marquee select at all? I find that you need to let go of the left mouse first after you finish the drag for it to work correctly (also you have to be in select faces tool "v" key).  If you hold down "v" MB while then go back to whatever brush you were using when you release it. (Actually all brushes (1-9) work like that.)

To do it quickly, hold down "v" ----then left & middle mouse drag over selection----- let go of left----- then let go of "v".  should select all the way thru, it may sound a bit tricky but once you get the motion it's pretty quick. Hope that helps.

thanks yeah I got it to work. :) It's kinda wonky. Dunno why might be my MX1000 Logitech mouse.

I still think some dedicated marquee tools (box, elliptical, lasso, etc) similar to Photoshop's or Max's would be better for productivity in MB.

Thanks for your quick responses.
