Nice one Wayne, good to see the new features in action.
Vector displacements are very cool. I can see them being much more useful for transfering data between models than regular displacements as those lose surface movement or pinching. Vector Displacement should preserve that.
And the posing tools look great. Very easy to use.
The colour shifting paint tools are very welcome as is the UV space painting. In fact improvements to the painting all round are very welcome.

Well I should point out the Vector Displacement brush you see is actually just a saved preset of mine so I dont have to jump back and forth between settings... its very easy to set up and I'll cover that nearer release. vector stamps can be used with any of the sculpting brushes so its not limited ot one brush.

Yeh i didn't actually mean your "Exact" brush so to speak.. i want to use that technique for creating very pronounced scales with a rock edge feel

sorry to distract from the current topic,but wanted to share this with ya'll its a video demonstrating how to draw characters and creatures in mudbox,...wait what...yes drawing, although this feature have been possible since the introduction of paint layers(2009-10) users weren’t aware this was possible, i came up with this idea a while back of drawing in mudbox and with the release of 2011 around the corner and its sweet new painting tools such as dodge,burn, contrast and such accompanied by blending modes makes this feature even more powerful, you can also use this as you would regular paint layers and send them to Photoshop to use its existing tools, or finish it directly in mud.
it feels so natural even more so than Photoshop, as i’m able to zoom/pan and use the mirror option to do symmetrical drawings, and take advantage of the steady stroke and stamps on my brushes to get a wide variety of styles.
you can aslo, save screen images of your character sculpts and draw over it to explore designs and such with-out leaving mudbox.
as mentioned in the video, ill be doing a series of these in which i take a character from concept to completion with-out leaving mudbox...keep an eye out.
anyhoo...enjoy!!

@Minimus
glad you like it, however you don't have to wait for the new version you can do this currently in mudbox, but without the awesomeness of blend modes and such.

I managed to create a vector displacement map, and then bring it back onto a newer mesh with updated topology within Mudbox. However, I'm getting a bunch of spikes. Most of the spikes I was able to erase or smooth out. But there are two that I can seem to get a hold of. Even if I do manage to smooth those guys, am I going to run into the anomalies when I RE-generate the "now-smoothed" Vector Displacement map for rendering?
I did try and open the vdm exr in Photoshop but couldn't make heads or tails of the color scheme -- at least it didn't seem so simple to decipher as a traditional displacment map. Furthermore, when I tried to bring in the EXR saved from Photoshop, the "Sculpt with Displacement Map" did not have any affect. :(
Thanks in advance for your insight.
